Just to note from the first version of the PR:

I tried to let it run on aarch64, but it took 50+ mins and didn't even get to compilation. The VM also offers RISC-V emulation, but likely it won't be good enough. Perhaps cross-compiling first and only running the actual unit tests could be better.
